Bail and anticipatory bail
Bail matters are often the most urgent step. Whether the question is regular bail or anticipatory bail, the approach depends on the stage of the matter and the facts.
We advise on the considerations involved and what is needed to present an application clearly before the appropriate court.
FIRs, complaints, and the trial stage
Questions often arise around an FIR, a complaint, or representation at the trial court stage. Understanding the process and your rights at each point helps you make informed decisions.
We explain the procedure and advise on the steps available in the circumstances.
Quashing of FIRs and criminal proceedings
Where an FIR, chargesheet, or summoning order does not disclose the offence alleged, or turns a civil or property dispute into a criminal case, the High Court can be asked to quash it under its inherent powers or its writ jurisdiction. An order declining to quash can be challenged before the Supreme Court by special leave.
We advise on whether the allegations and the documents support such a petition, and on interim protection while it is pending.
Serious criminal matters
Serious or sensitive criminal matters are assessed carefully before the firm takes them on. These require a considered review of the facts and any conflict considerations before a consultation is confirmed.
Where a matter falls into this category, please submit your details so the team can review before responding.

FAQ
Criminal Defense questions, answered
What is the difference between bail and anticipatory bail?
Anticipatory bail is sought before arrest, where a person apprehends arrest in a non-bailable matter, while regular bail is sought after arrest or during proceedings. The approach depends on the stage of the matter and the facts.
What should I do if an FIR has been registered?
An FIR is time-sensitive and the right immediate steps depend on the allegations and stage. Understanding your rights and the procedure early helps you make informed decisions. Where the matter is urgent, an urgent consultation is appropriate.
Can an FIR be quashed if the dispute is really a civil or property dispute?
It can be, where the FIR, read with the admitted documents, does not disclose the ingredients of the offence alleged. Cheating, for example, requires a dishonest intention at the start of the transaction; a later breach of contract is not enough. The High Court decides such petitions, and its refusal can be challenged before the Supreme Court. Our guide to quashing an FIR explains the tests.
Does the firm handle serious criminal matters?
Serious or sensitive criminal matters are assessed carefully before the firm takes them on, including any conflict considerations. In these cases, please submit your details so the team can review before confirming a consultation.
